"Listen to the new album from the rock group, Derby and you'd swear they hail from Britain. The Portland, Ore.-based band draws heavily on BritPop and classic sounds of past British invasions on their latest CD their second Posters Fade. The influence of bands like The Beatles is impossible to miss, but the group leans more towards homage than imitation. The album stands as a catalog of Brit Rock stylings from the last forty years, all filtered through an American band looking back in awe.
The melody on the opening track "Why Don't You Do It" has the same eastern-inspired tonality as much of the fab four's later material, and the track's whirl of reverb-heavy guitars and ambient noises delve into late '60s psychedelia. Immediately following that foray into feedback is "All Or Nothing," a tightly written, '80s dance-pop song complete with hand-clapping and infectious, sugary sweet "ooh-wha-oh" phrase endings.
From the slammed chords and squealing lead guitar that open the title track, "Posters Fade," it's not hard to imagine the song as a '70s rock anthem. Instead, the track evolves into an upbeat, neatly packaged pop song, with a very catchy melody. Following that, "Stumps" offers beautiful, three-part vocal harmonies set over simple strings and a softly picked acoustic guitar, ala early '60s folk.
The record's pacing is its greatest strength. Oscillating between upbeat rockers and slower, more intimate folk tracks, the album successfully navigates the immense musical terrain the band traverses. Derby has drawn a stylistic thread through decades of music, and the result is an album that is familiar yet unique, and popular while remaining artful."

Derby's long-anticipated sophomore release Posters Fade will be released nationally on June 17th! The album was produced, recorded and mixed in Portland, OR at the band's own Secret Ships Studio.
In an age when the art of the album has been lost, Derby have created not just a cohesive collection of music, but an album that plays like a song. Posters Fade was created as a seamless entity with one song rolling into another, chaos converting into a single voice, and notes that trail off into an entirely new song. It was written as a whole, with an intro and outro, highs and lows, anticipation, and dynamics so intense it is guaranteed to please. With meticulous precision and complete disregard for convention, Derby created something undeniably captivating. Stacked full of beautiful harmonies, crunchy guitars, pounding drums and hand-claps galore, Posters Fade will become an instant classic.
Stay tuned for info about the CD Release Extravaganza that will be happening in Portland, OR in June

Sometimes bands explode overnight. Sometimes they are the sleeper hit of the season. Somehow, Derby has succeeded at both. With one successful album out and another on the way, there are enough hooks and good looks in this band to set up a new alternative fuel source for the entire city. When I watch Derby live, I often feel like I am watching what would happen if Paul Banks of Interpol formed a band backed by Ben Gibbard & Co.: rock 'n' roll sex appeal built on the most solid of songs and melodies. Plus, date night has never been easier. Trust me. This show is cheaper than a movie and three times more likely to get you to second base.

"The band plays percussion-heavy, Beach Boys-influenced pop that would feel at home between Spoon and the Rentals in your heavy rotation stack."
**Last minute reminder**
This Saturday, Nov. 24th Derby will be performing their final show of 2007 at the Doug Fir! The show begins at 9pm with the Hugs, followed by Oh Darling, and then, of course, Derby.
This show will be so dreamy from start to finish that you'll have a crush on everyone around you. That's a good thing. Wink! Oh Darling and the Hugs will undoubtedly be fantastic. Not to be outdone, Derby has special guest Rian Lewis from Crosstide sitting in on lap steel, which has to be seen/heard. Brilliant!

Love with mashed potatoes on top,
derby
Happy autumn everyone! We are incredibly excited to bring you our big end-of-the-year holiday weekend show. Derby is performing on Saturday, November 24th @ the Doug Fir.
Joining us will be our great friends and incredible band, Oh Darling, as well as the new young Portland phenoms, the Hugs. Yes, that is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so if you're in town grab the entire mashed potato tofurkey stuffed crew and come out the show. You know that your great uncle Milton has been jonesin' to see some Derby, and what else do you have to do that weekend? Grab old Milt, aunt Flo and you're old high school buddies, come to the Doug Fir, and we promise to help you burn a holiday ton of calories with the rocking and rolling that is inevitable with such a dynamic lineup.
As has become the trend, our Doug Fir shows sell out. So, either show up that night in time to get in, buy a ticket in advance at the box office, or go through this link to TicketsWest.com.
The show starts at 9pm with the Hugs, Oh Darling, and then us. It really will be a fantastic evening from beginning to end. We are lucky enough to have Rian Lewis from Crosstide sitting in with us to play lap steel. You have to hear it, for realzeez! This is our only show booked for the remainder of the year, so we will make it extra special.
In other news, Derby will be performing a couple songs acoustically on Portland's 101.9 KINK fm. That will be taking place the day before the show, on Nov. 23rd. Check our website and myspace for more info as the date approaches.
We also still have a limited number of our 5 song E.P.'s available for sale only at the show. Grab 'em while they're still hot. Last I checked they're piping. As for our upcoming full-length album "Posters Fade," we're trying to figure out who wants to put this beast out, when and where... more on that soon. We are too excited and proud to even get into that at the moment, but worry not. It will be released, and it will be monumental.
See you at the show!

derby
Hello everyone! We have a new video for "If Ever There's A Reason." It was made by our brilliant friends at Revolver Digital Media Studio. Thank you guys for everything! Also, thanks to those of you who volunteered to stuff yourself in that hot little room with a bunch of sweaty guys, a fog machine, lights, camera and a whole lot o' action. I'm happy to say we only ate it hard a few times during the shooting of this video, but every tailbone bruise was worth it's weight in video gold.
To see the video, click on the videos link above.
In other big news, this past Friday night, October 12th at 10:00pm, two of our new songs ("If Ever There's a Reason" and "All or Nothing") were used in the ABC TV show Men in Trees! So if your Friday plans were as exciting as ours, you might've changed the channel over to ABC at 10pm and watched Anne Heche run around Alaska to some stomp-clappin'
Derby. We've also recently been on ABC's What About Brian, and Notes From the Underbelly. Coming soon we'll be featured in the new ABC show Eli Stone. I think we're dating ABC now... to early to tell if this relationship is really going anywhere, but for now it's fun just making out. Happy Rocktober!

Derby

long time. So come down to the show and we'll toast to homecomings.
You can buy tickets at any SonicBoom location, or at the Croc's box
office.

Fest is a $FREE$ event featuring 3 bands: Derby, Boy Eats Drum
Machine, and the Sort Of's, plus arts and crafts curated by Crafty
Wonderland, and a Fall fashion runway show by Sameunderneath & Johnny
Sole, and cocktails by Dewars.

on a little later by 8pm. It will be a great event, and as we
mentioned, it's FREE, so come and enjoy the festivities and rock out
with us. The last whoknowshowmany times we've played the Doug Fir
it's been sold out, so take this opportunity to see Derby at the Doug
Fir in a different light. We're looking forward to it!
***New Derby Music: We've finished our second full-length album and
are pinning down the exact release date. The good news is that we've
also recorded a very exclusive limited edition E.P. featuring 5 new

but they're going fast. So if you need an excuse to come out to a
show, use this one. We are very proud and excited of all the new

"INDIE POP Derby is the epitome of hipster indie rock, packing songs with a lot of whoa-ohs, clap-along beats and spot-on harmonies. The trio even wears ties. These elements usually make me want to puke, but Derby hits the nail on the head, shelling out tingly feel-good music that's nearly impossible not to nod along to. The songs are poppy and undeniably catchy, and the band spreads good vibes like a happy epidemic. Damn you, Derby. I want to hate you, but I can't turn you off. AP KRYZA. Doug Fir. 9 pm. $8. 21+." We are currently in the studio, putting the final touches on our second full-length album!!!!! The release date is still TBD, but we're working on that. Not only does all of this hard work mean that we'll have a NEW album for everyone, it means that we will get back on stage and make noise, jump around, and most importantly sing darkly-weighted metaphorical lyrics like "ooohhh la la laaaa" and "ow ow sheebop bop."
In the meantime, browse the happy NEW site, watch the NEW videos with superior resolution (that shot is at you myspace & youtube, oww!), listen to our music in its' entirety with magic-crystal-clearness, gaze googallyeyed at the NEW photos, and most importantly, have a splendiferous time.
Stay tuned for constant updates, and maybe even a SNEAK PEAK at our NEW upcoming album!

derby (+nat+dave+isaac+)
